Sports Carnival in Kota Damansara

August 16, 2008, a Saturday morning, CBC-KD members joined a few other KD churches in organizing a Sports Carnival at a school in Kota Damansara. It was heartening to learn that about 70% of our KD members were involved in this event, the highest participation amongst all the churches. There were various competitions – basketball, volley ball, football and tele-matches. Pastor Alexa was successful in engaging our youth from different CBC centers to participate. After each match, Life Coaches were there to facilitate some interaction with the competitors. Pastor Alexa shared a testimony from one Life Coach - "There was a certain team who had a teacher that accompanied the team to the game. He listened intently as we coached. After the session, he told me that all we were teaching was needful especially "Kepercayaan Kepada Tuhan.” He continued to say that many have advanced in their studies and skills but in terms of 'kerohanian' they were very undeveloped. Pastor Alexa has this to say about the event: “As our Sports Carnival emphasized on good values impartation, the event was not just an opportunity to 'bergaul' with the community. We got into something deeper, that is, their very lives itself. When we talk about 'semangat kemasyarakatan' and 'muhibah,’ we highlighted the enemies of it in areas of harsh speech, poor conduct, impurity and faithlessness. So, these were very relevant to the teenagers. According to the teacher, most of them come from broken homes. According to the teenagers, they would seek counsel more with their friends than their parents as communication breakdown exists in their family.”

Coaches cooperated between the teams to talk about it, resulting in the offending party coming to apologize to the other team; thereafter, he received an applause for his commendable act.”

Guests were treated by the Full Gospel Assembly members with free satay at a tent outside the school. There were also some kueh served. It was a great ending to an eventful morning. It is hoped that through these events, the community of Kota Damansara will be well knitted together and it will bring opportunities for friendship and cooperation in the future.
