There is an unending list of God’s names. Through time, people of God have added to the list; the likes of David of old to the 21st song writers, have given names like “O Judge of the earth, my Rock, Darling of Heaven.”
The name of the Lord - to me, its spelt POWER! That’s because our God is a LIVING GOD, who hears our prayers, however trivial they may seem. In every situation, there’s a name for Him. He is ever ready to answer us, with a Yes, No, Wait, or, “I (God) have a better way.”
Two very major disasters hit our world this year – the Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar and the big earthquake in China. Never before has mankind experienced suffering in such a large scale. What do Christians do when we undergo suffering? When everything fails, we call upon the name of the Lord. Sadly, God is the last resort to most.
I just heard a wonderful testimony from a sister. On August 31, 2008, a couple joined their church outing in the outskirts of K.L. The wife, who was 7 months pregnant, walked a few feet behind her husband on a jungle track. Suddenly, she screamed. Looking back, her husband saw a huge monkey about to snatch his wife’s bag (presumably for food.) Immediately, he cried out, “In the name of the Lord!” He couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the monkey fall down on his knees, and wet the ground, trembling. What a powerful demonstration of God’s deliverance.
A similar incident happened to my husband some years ago, when he was serving in France under OM (Operation Mobilisation.) Required to operate by faith, his daily food can only be bought with money he received from books he sold. One day, when he walked down the path to a house to sell books, the owner, on seeing him, let go his Alsatian dog. It went pounding down the driveway, barking and growling. Richard had 2 options – to outrun the dog (somewhat impossible) or, to call upon the Lord. He chose the latter, and cried out: “In Jesus Name!” Suddenly, the Alsatian stop short of its steps and looked at him. Wonder of wonders! Remember…. At the Name of Jesus, every knee shall bow!
In this issue, we have several testimonies of God coming through for His children. He will also be there for those who don’t know Him, and yet call upon His name (like the father whose son was demon possessed.) Seek Him and you will find Him. On page 39, our contributor asked: If this earthquake did not happen, would you have considered the purpose and meaning of your lives seriously, as you do now?
May we live each day in the reality of our God’s love and power for He cares for us.
Let’s declare:
How great is our God!
Sing with me,
how great is our God!
All will see how great,
how great is our God!
Name above all names.
Worthy of all praise.
My heart will sing,
How great is our God!
ABUNDANT
AGAPE,
Pat Toh
