OUR HISTORY

Chang Kong, a Chinese generic name, was given by the Church to replace the Malay generic name of Jinjang, meaning Snake Head. Coincidently, at the entrance of the site to Jinjang are three (3) Chinese Temples with dragon inscriptions depicting snake heads. No wonder the Malay generic name Jinjang was allotted to it.

We, the Church of Jesus Christ, believe that its destiny will be changed with the positive presence of Christians fervent for the Lord in transforming the landscape of spiritual darkness of Jinjang to Chang Kong (True Light) of the light of our Lord Jesus Christ.

VISION OF THE NET

At the First CBC Congress in March 2008, we had the opportunity to cast the vision for Chang Kong in the form of a painting. It depicts a large fishing net gathering in all sorts of fishes till the net was at breaking point. How could that come about? Chang Kong is a very rich fishing ground with lots of fishes because of availability of food.

We believe God has put us there for the purpose of fishing and rearing. My Dream Centre, a new Centre for fishing activities mentioned in our Mission Statement earlier, is the fishing net and Chang Kong Centre is the aquarium. Right now we are busy concentrating our efforts on fishing by preparing a large and effective net.

The preparation of the net comprise of different kinds of nets. To catch prawns for instance, we need a 3-layer transparent net made from tough polyester material. Prawns are in great demand and therefore very pricy. All the churches in Chang Kong and Kepong know it and are out to catch prawns. We shouldn’t be competing with each other. Rather we should pool our resources together for the harvest is great and plentiful.

For the time being our ‘aquarium,’ the Church premise, can accommodate about 100 people. Our Sunday service attendance is about 30 and there is still room for more. Youth (prawn net) service has just started with around 12 coming. Children’s Cell has about 7. In the near future, we are also preparing another type of net in the form of Boys’ Brigade to bring in the teens. We are asking the Lord of the Harvest to provide the right kind of fishermen for this type of fishing activities which requires commitment to raise up a group of disciplined teens of upright character.

The Dedication of “My Dream Centre” was held on April 26, 2008, in Chang Kong. This event signaled a renewed start to a year of abundance with a dedicated team that is passionate to win the community for Christ.
