The words of the song spoke to our hearts (Sarah’s and Ben’s) as it describes how insignificant we are on our own and how temporary our lives are. God, despite all that, calls us His own and hears us when we call out to Him.
We did not initially intend to compete in the ADOI competition. We wanted to share the song with the SEA PARK Congregation as we felt that it would have been a good reminder of who we are in God’s eyes, no matter how we felt.
However, it was at that point of time that we found out that there were very few people who were representing our congregation for ADOI. There were none, to be exact (hehe). So, we decided to be ‘Contestants number One’.
Round one and round two came and went. Along the way we decided to get more people involved as well as add some spice to the performance itself, hence coming up with the video and getting Huei Yuih and Zhe Xian to be part of the ‘live performance’ itself.
Here’s what some of the team members have to say:
Benjamin Teo: Music and moving pictures are no doubt one of today's greatest tools. So why not use it for evangelizing? I believe that the church today needs to embrace the fact that certain medium can be used for the glory of God’s name. The song 'Who Am I' is one song that just puts my perspective on who GOD is. It tells me that I am not of much use without His love and grace in my life. As for doing the video, it was not an easy task, due to so many factors. But getting inspiration from the net was one of the major factors in completing the video. Being a film director, I had to assemble a crew as well as a cast. I chose dancing as the main focus of the video because of David in the bible when he danced in front of the ark of the LORD. The last part was the hardest, performing with the video. It was not easy because we had to sync our song with the video. After endless hours of discussion and practice we finally managed to produce something which I believe will reach out to people. Arts, in the Christian circle, is a very powerful and effective medium in reaching out to people, and we as servants of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords have to realize that this is another excellent avenue in reaching out and saving the lost souls.
Lim Zhe Xian:
My experience with ADOI was a wonderful one, mainly because we won.
With all the effort put in, we managed to win first place for the group
performance. My main challenge was not really a big one...which was
trying to get the timing of the song right to match the video and
getting the chords right. And in the process, I have witnessed the
making of a 'wayang kulit' video.
What the song means to me is actually that a GOD, who is so big, Almighty and Powerful, cares so much for such insignificant people such as ourselves, that even though we have done nothing to deserve His love and even when we sin over and over again, He is ever forgiving and ever loving to us, and He is always there for us when we need Him.
Lim Huei Yuih and Sarah Jane: It was a wonderful journey, even though it was a short one. We enjoyed working together with the rest of the youth especially in the video production as we got to know some of the people better in the process. We really wanted to encourage the church and to remind them of their worth, but winning was a pleasant surprise too and a bonus which we were very happy about. All in all, it has been a great experience for all of us, one we 23 will look back and smile upon. Most importantly, we pray that you will remember who you are in God’s eyes and that He calls you His own if you would give your life to Him. Also, we want to encourage everyone to take up opportunities such as this in the future! God Bless You.
