Growing a healthy body
Children's conference

Community Baptist Church Children's Conference 2007

The first CBC Children’s Conference, conceived by our Senior Pastor Richard Toh, became a reality on 26 MAY 2007 at Sea Park Center. Under Suzie Lo’s leadership, the Children Ministry Heads from all our CBC centers met and planned for this whole-day event to materialize.  80 children, aged 6 to 12 years old, from Jinjang, Kota Damansara, Sea Park, Subang, Puchong, from both English and Chinese congregations, participated in this conference to learn God’s word in a fun way and through interactive workshops.
Themed “Growing A Healthy Body (of Christ),” this conference aimed to unite all CBC children to learn and grow together as a family of God; hence, the message for them was taken from 1 Corinthians 12:12-27.

“Though we are many, we are actually one. Each part of our body has different functions to serve different purposes, yet every one of them is connected. When one part of our body is in pain, the rest of the body hurts too. When each part of the body is functioning well, the whole body is fit and healthy. Therefore, each individual is important in the body (of Christ). Likewise in CBC, the children, in their diversities, use their talents and capabilities to serve God together in this one big family. When they respect and love one another, unity in diversity is in action.”  This was the whole essence of Pastor Malcolm’s message for the children that day.

Not only the children, but the teachers and helpers from all the centers also came together to work as one. This conference provided another avenue for us to get to know one another as we interacted in themed workshops. The workshops included Breadmaking (Healthy Nutrition), Obstacle Games (Exercise), Craft (Diligent Work), Rest (Refreshing & Fellowship) and Teambuilding (Conducive Environment). Worth mentioning too was the significant turnout of youths from Subang who came to help us out. In this respect, teens from different centers had the opportunity to mingle and  even exchange e-mail addresses. I was glad that God enabled all this to happen in one day.

In this short one day, it would not be possible for everybody to know one another as close as we hope to, but this was a great launching pad for adults, teens and children of CBC to make a few new friends and keep them. As for us who had been just a name to a face, a ‘hi-and-bye’ at combined events, it was a good start to foster deeper friendship with one another. Then, I believe, when we come to church-wide events, meeting one another will be more meaningful.

We want to thank Pastor Reynold and Florence, who stood by us the whole day, giving us the support and keeping us all in prayer. All praise and glory be unto God  for a successful conference. He protected us and gave us the best weather. He gave the teachers and helpers the joy of serving. He gave the children a marvelous time. At the end of the day, they were all smiles, carting away their prizes, each and every one of them. Now, everybody is a winner in God’s kingdom, isn’t that true?
