“Handing over the Baton” – Children’s Ministry Annual Dinner 2006

The annual Children’s Ministry fellowship dinner held on December 30, 2006, marked the close of a wonderful year. The annual dinner was attended by all serving in the ministry from the various centres, namely SEA Park (both English and Chinese), Sunway-Subang, Puchong, and Kota Damansara.

This event was especially significant for three reasons. Firstly, the event was graced by the presence of all our congregational pastors and their beloved wives. Secondly, it was a time of honouring and appreciating all those who have served faithfully in the Children’s Ministry for the past ten years. Last but not least, it was a time to say, thank you, to Sister Tan Kam Kiew as the overall CBC’s Head of Children’s Ministry for the past six years and having served a total of 16 years in the Children’s Ministry. Indeed, a big “Thank You!” to you, Kam Kiew, for your leadership and contribution to the ministry.

That evening, we appreciated several teachers for their contribution in serving the Lord in the Children’s Ministry. They were:-

SS2 (SEA Park)

1. Susan Phoon            - 20 years +

2. Kim Lye                    - 21 years

3. Lee Leng                  - 18 years

4. Elsie Yap                  - 12 years

5. Suzie Lo                   - 11 years

Sunway-Subang

1. Chan Lai Fong          - 20 years +

2. Kam Kiew                 - 16 years

Senior Pastor Richard Toh, in his speech, said that CBC truly appreciated all who served in the Children’s Ministry. He urged them to continue to serve our wonderful Lord Jesus faithfully, and to reach out to the children placed under their hands. He mentioned that more brothers need to serve in this ministry. (Brothers, where are you?) This statement brought smiles to the faces of the ladies present. Special appreciation was accorded to the brothers who bravely serve in this women-dominated ministry. They are brothers Peter Lo, Jerry Teo and Alvyn Goh.

Jeremiah 1:5 reveals God’s special purpose for every child that will be born. In Psalm 127:3-5, we read that children are a heritage, a reward, and arrows. In Psalm 78: 1-8, children are the hope for a new generation. Indeed, serving children brings a special blessing.

With the stepping down of Sister Kam Kiew from her role as Children’s Ministry Coordinator, we welcome her successor, Sister Suzie Lo. To mark this event, Sister Kam Kiew handed over the ‘baton’ in the form of a small baseball bat, as a symbol of relinquishing her responsibilities and passing them to Suzie. Our new Coordinator then shared about God’s perfect timing, which is always perfect, and how God prepared her heart for this new role. We are thankful that her obedience to the Lord’s call has yielded another wonderful servant leader for the ministry.

After having so much good food, the evening ended with Pastor Reynold giving the benediction. It was a wonderful ending to a fruitful year. As 2007 has started, we look forward to the next annual fellowship dinner to celebrate what the Lord would have done in this Year of Abundance. We give all thanks and glory to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
