An Awesome and Amazing God

My wonderful journey with Christ

April 4, 1999:   It was CBC’s combined Easter Sunday Celebration. When Senior Pastor Richard Toh preached the message concerning “the Pit,” tears just rolled down my face as God touched me. I did not understand why, but I responded by receiving Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour without hesitation.

April 9, 1999:   I attended my first Shepherd Group meeting. Everyone was friendly and I decided to return. I did, again and again.

May, 1999       I began returning to church. Sn. Ps. Richard Toh preached on idolatry. (The last church I attended was Glad Tidings, Jalan Gasing, some 30 years ago.) The message brought memories of the time I was 9 years old. When I heard about Jesus, I went home to my idol-worshipping mother to inform her that her idols were not real gods. Being a filial daughter, I followed my mother instead of the Lord. Now that I attend CBC, I decided to follow Jesus. I continued to attend the Sunday services weekly.

Oct. 17, 1999:  I was baptized. I witnessed to my son and two brothers. My mother surprised me with a “laisi” or “ang pow” to wish me a better future. The amount in the “ang pow” was more than what she usually gave me during Chinese New Year! She even announced that from now on, she will not be serving me food offered to her idols. Praise the Lord! Only an awesome God can move my mother’s heart that way. At the same time, God revealed to me that it was Him who planted me at the helm of my neighbourhood’s Residential Association (SPORA) seven years ago. Our amazing God opened the door for me to serve in the tuition ministry. I am so thankful to Him.

2000:               My husband, Edwin Loh, took a VSS from his bank after 20 years’ service.  My tuition income came in handy. I did not advertise since I started this ministry. God was faithful in supplying my needs. At the same time, I began serving in the church’s Children’s Ministry.

April 26, 2004: Edwin was diagnosed with cancer and had to stop work as a remisier.

May 27, 2006: Edwin was baptized.

Oct. 9, 2006:    Edwin went to be with the Lord. God was a tower of strength to me at this time.

As I reflect, I know God was faithfully preparing me in my spiritual journey for widowhood. He has been awesome in ordering my steps each day. God had given me loving and caring church members to support me with their prayers and help in very tangible ways during my husband’s illness and recent death. I am very thankful to them and most of all, to our amazing God. To Him be all the glory!
